"Thank you very much for the beautiful tapes you made of our mother's life. We have listened to them twice already. It's a very interesting piece of work for which we thank you greatly."

Life Story Recording

We too easily forget about all the amazing things that have happened to us along the way. But we can all remember those special moments when we had the pleasure of telling someone a youthful adventure or what it was like to be a child in the old country or how different our childhood was than childhood is today. Such memories are precious, both to us and to our loved ones. Now there is a way to retell, record and preserve them for ourselves and our loved ones: a life story recording.

Imagine if someone had interviewed you when you were twenty-one. What was going on in your life? What were your hopes, dreams, ideals? Wouldn’t it be amazing to listen to that tape now, with all that has happened in the meantime? Or wouldn’t it be great to play that tape to your own twenty-one-year-old? Life story recordings can lead to memorable experiences. They make a wonderful gift: to your parents, to yourself, to your children.

How it's done:
First there is an informal telephone conversation with Dorothea where she will explain the process and find out a little bit about you. Then she’ll give you some questions to think about before the interview.

The interview itself is a conversation between you and Dorothea where she will help you remember some of the memorable aspects of your life past, present or future, depending on the type of interview. You’ll be amazed at what you can remember and put into words with the help of the right questions.

And it is more than just fun. When you look at your life this way, you may discover themes, cycles and rhythms that weren’t apparent before. Maybe some things will fall into place and make more sense. But at the very least you will be creating a precious record for your loved ones: your story in your own words.

Why audio?
Our voice is a revelation of who we are. Listening to someone’s voice is an intimate experience. These kinds of experiences have become increasingly rare in our visually saturated culture. It is important to us to make them happen.

What you will take away with you:
After the interview or interviews, you will receive one or more audio CDs with customized photo labels that you and your loved ones can listen to again and again.
